Here are some pictures of the ride that I’ve finally got up and running. I took it grocery shopping and zipped around town successfully, but didn’t capture those photographically. I’m quite happy with the build-up, but am looking forward to using the cargo capacity to its fullest.

It’s also interesting to go back and look at what this bike was when I got it. I’ve put enough time and money into it, that’s pretty much a different bike. Only the frame, fork, headset, wheels, derailers, cranks, chainrings and bottom bracket are ‘original’. Now that I list it out, I don’t feel like I swapped nearly as much stuff as I thought I had!
Oh my gosh…didn’t know you were a blogger!!
Wow that looks great! Is that a 700c or 26” Xtracycle you built up? I notice your frame was a 700c? You are running 700c wheels?
I must say it looks great! Same as the blog. I’ve apologize, I haven’t had a chance to check it out, but I’ve got it book marked and will definitely be waiting for future posts!
The Extra looks amazing. Thanks for the research on the handle bars. I’ve been thinking about Albatross bars, but wasn’t quite sure. With their extra width, they do look like a nice option for taller people (longer arms).
Anyway, you’ve inspired me to start seriously looking at making my Xtra nice, and actually putting some thought into the build, rather than just slapping together anything that I had in my parts bin.
Cheers!
Hey Jeremy, thanks!
This is a 700c xtracycle and because I’m so tall, the xtracycle guys recommended this as the way to go. I knew I needed canti-brakes, and a 27″ frame would have been too big for a cargo (but fine for a city bike). I saw this puppy on craigslist (go back to one of my first posts) and then just started building it up. I dont’ have too many bikes (though the wife says otherwise) and wanted to have a project. Worked out well, and the next step is to build one of these for carrying the kids to school!
Wow those things look great! I need to build one of those for my kids too! I’ve never seen anything like that before. Thanks.
